Are You Ready for Some FOOTBALL???!!!

Let me just get this out of the way, up front: I am NOT a football fan.  My family was never into football when I was growing up. They were more into motor sports.  That being said, I do enjoy the Superbowl! My church hosts a HUGE Superbowl party every year. We have a huge screen set up in our gymnasium, and tables set up for games or crafting for those who are not interested in the game. It is a lot of fun. We have a huge turn out every year.

We also have a chili cook off, which I am looking forward to this year.  I recently found this jerky chili recipe and want to try it out and possibly enter one into the contest!  It's made with jerky, which I think will be interesting. I'm going to experiment with the type of jerky I use.

Ingredients:
  •     1/2 cup chopped slab bacon
  •     1 onion, chopped
  •     2 cloves garlic, minced
  •     4 or 5 chili peppers, chopped
  •     5 cups (8) fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  •     2 cups beef broth
  •     2 Tbsp chili powder (or more to taste)
  •     2 Tbsp light brown sugar
  •     1 - 1/2 tsp cumin (or more to taste)
  •     1/2 tsp pepper (or more to taste)
  •     2 - 3 cups beef, buffalo, or turkey jerky, chopped
  •     2 - 3 cups kidney beans or pinto beans, cooked
Instructions:

  1. Cook bacon in DO until fat is rendered but not crisp.
  2. Add onion and garlic, cook until tender - about 5 minutes.
  3. Add chili peppers, tomatoes and beef broth.
  4. Cook until tomaotes are soft - about 20 minutes.
  5. Combine chili powder, brown sugar, cumin and pepper - add to pot.
  6. Stir in jerky.
  7. Cook at a simmer or slow boil for 45 minutes.
  8. Add beans, bring to a boil and cook for 5 more minutes.
